Education
Dr. Midkiff received her PsyD in clinical psychology from Marshall University in 2006. Prior to that she received a Masters degree of Clinical Psychology in 1997 and her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1995 also from Marshall University.
Licensure
Dr. Midkiff received her license to independently provide psychological services from the West Virginia Board of Examiners of Psychologists in 2002.
Employment
Dr. Midkiff has worked the past sixteen years in the behavioral health care field. Her earliest employment as a psychologist was as the lead therapist for an inpatient substance abuse treatment center for woman and children. Here she developed a system wide behavioral treatment program that continues to be sited today as a integral component for continued federal funding.
Dr. Midkiff went on to work for Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric facility, with initial responsibility of performing traditional assessment and treatment interventions. She soon moved into the position of Assistant to the Clinical Director with a primary responsibility of developing, implementing, and coordinating active treatment programming for the 90 bed JCAHO accredited CMS certified hospital.
Dr. Midkiff ‘s pre doctoral internship training was in an outpatient psychiatric and behavioral medicine treatment facility. She earned hospital privileges with Cabell Huntington Hospital where she responded to consults from the general population as well as the pediatric intensive care unit and the adult intensive care unit. Dr. Midkiff has experience with testing patients with neuropsychological issues that enables her to understand and make use of assessment findings for those presenting with cognitive changes in the brain as the result of physical insult (e.g., traumatic brain injury, Parkinson disease, alcohol and/or drug abuse, dementia, ADHD, learning disabled, etc.).
Dr. Midkiff has over six years of consulting privileges with community nursing homes. Consulting services consist of evaluation, recommendation, and treatment for mood and behavior disorders of the elderly. She also is qualified to conduct competency evaluations as well as diagnostic assessment for dementia or like disorders.
Dr. Midkiff also has experience working with the criminally insane. She worked for the Department of Justice as a Psychologist in a United States Penitentiary as a staff psychologist for a maximum security prison for men. She is familiar in the study and treatment of criminal thinking and behavior. Dr. Midkiff has also received specialized Federal Law Enforcement Training where she graduated with excellence in academics.
Dr. Midkiff currently works for River Park Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, as the Program Director of Adult and Senior Care Services. She has administrative oversight of 53 inpatient beds with duties that include supervision of day to day operations, clinical program development and she is a member of the executive staff committee. She also see’s patients privately one day a week with Associates in Psychology and Therapy.
