eChat Therapy
eChat therapy offers you the writing experience of eMail therapy with the benefit of an immediate response from an online doctor/therapist. You will experience conversation not just information.
Online eChat may be a comfortable and convenient way for you to begin opening up to another person. This may be the perfect first step toward trying traditional therapies (i.e., face to face) or you may already be familiar with that process and prefer the privacy and certain anonymity eChat offers. In therapy you must be willing to reveal trusted information about yourself, such as true feelings and thoughts. Sometimes face to face discussions are too uncomfortable to accomplish this therefore impeding on your progress. With eChat you may be better able to manage that discomfort in the safety of your own environment and therefore move forward with the strength and resolve Calm Waters provides.
The internet offers access to mental health care no matter where you live. Individuals living in rural areas or those whose access to transportation is limited now can receive mental health care in a timely manner and from the comfort of their home.
MORE INFORMATION
When you think of eMail therapy, think journaling. eMail therapy provides a writing experience that has often been noted to clarify thinking, serve as an outlet for expressing feelings, and as a result improving overall mental health [1][2]. Psychologists often recommend journaling as a therapeutic intervention for the treatment of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, self cutting, and many other forms of mental health problems.
If you participate in eMail therapy your first journal experience will ask you to journal your thoughts in a free association manner. This means you are to write exactly what you are thinking, do not stop yourself and say “oh I shouldn’t think that”, just keep going. I will respond to that eMail in an organized way. You will receive feedback that will offer an analyses of your thinking style (i.e. are there depressive or anxious features, etc.) and then you will be provided advice on ways of tailoring your journal entries so that this therapeutic process will have an optimal impact on your daily living. If you like you can stop here or continue on with more eMail therapy sessions to maximize your learning and strengthening your mental health.
eMail therapy can also be a platform for which you start a relationship that may lead to eChat, a form of journaling experience with immediate feedback. eMail therapy is a good place to “test the waters” as they say, to determine whether this particular forum of treatment for mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationship counseling, as well as many other mental health concerns is for you.
eMail therapy can also be a question and answer forum. If that is your intent I would suggest you try our FREE online forum first: Online Forum. If you do not find what you are looking for within that venue then eMail therapy may be the answer.
